Usage questions

Nope! The beauty of having an integrated chiller is that you do not need to be running to the store to buy bags of ice, every day. The integrated chiller will chill your water to your desired temperature. Our chiller can comfortably chill water to 3° Celsius.

No. Your IGLU is equipped with a powerful multi-filtration system, comprising a 20-micron filter (to capture any debris) and ozone purification (to sanitise the water and discharge ozonated water into your IGLU).

Frequency of changing water depends on the frequency of the IGLU usage. If the IGLU is used residentially (between 1-2 people per day and maximum 5-6 days per week) the water can be changed every 3-4 weeks. If the IGLU is used commercially (more than 5-7 people daily and more than 5-6 days per week) the water can be changed weekly.  The frequency of water changing will also depend on user hygiene i.e. showering before using the IGLU to remove sweat, hair and/or dirt particles.   Please see our maintenance protocol for our suggestions on how to maintain your IGLU water health.

  1. Instant mood boost, energy, focus and endorphins with a release of adrenaline & dopamine.
  2. Relives muscles soreness: anti-inflammatory effects of cold plunging combat inflammation
  3. Boosts your immune system with an increase in immune cells.
  4. Relieves chronic pain Boosts your metabolism and helps with brown fat thermogenesis.
  5. Improves your blood circulation.
  6. Promotes lymphatic drainage.
  7. Improves insulin sensitivity
  8. Activates mammalian diving reflex when you submerge your head under water – in turn activating the parasympathetic activity in the autonomic nervous system. Science speak for lowering your heart rate, making you calmer, and increasing your tolerance for stress.
  9. Increases core body thermogenesis (control your own body temperature).
  10. Putting your head under can also assist in headache management. Some people experience headache’s under the temperature difference between their head and body. So dip your head in.
  11. Heightens your discipline and focus (because you have bucket loads of discipline and focus to stay in the freezing cold water when you plunge).

    Studies

The IGLU design is sleek and modern, and, depending on your personal design taste, will suit most outdoor and indoor environments. Additionally, meditation is made easier with the integrated breath deck. Choose either a red cedar or aspen wood finish from IGLU’s selection of five different RAL colours.  Please click here for more information on our Siku IGLU.

Your IGLU can be placed indoors or outdoors. If you’ve placed it outdoors, we suggest it should be out of direct sunlight, to mitigate the sun’s heat affecting the cooling of the water.

When setting up your IGLU, please place it in the desired location for at least 3 hours; to allow the refrigerant gas to settle in the chiller. During this time, kindly ensure you clean the inside of the tub with a dirt-absorbing sponge/cloth to remove any dirt that may have been collected during transportation. Once cleaned and after waiting the 3 hours, the tank may be filled with water. Please ensure the water level is above the water inlet and outlet holes. Turn the pump on after filling the IGLU and allow the water to run through the system for 5-10min to ensure water flows through the filter before activating the chiller.

Please see our maintenance protocols for further information.

IGLU is designed to be plug-and-play. Therefore, no installation team is required. So, you receive your IGLU plunge, plug it in, fill your tank, turn your filter on (for 5 minutes), and then turn on your chiller. Once your bath water has reached the temperature you desire, plunge away.

Our SIKU model takes around 300L, which will fill the bath to just over three quarters full.

The IGLU SIKU model is designed to be used both indoors and outdoors.

If you decide to keep your IGLU outside, we would recommend keeping it under cover, and out of direct sunlight. Any direct sunlight exposure will significantly affect cooling performance and cooling regulation. Pro tip: always use your weather cover when your IGLU is not in use, it will help insulate and maintain the cold water inside your IGLU.

Please arrange for a licensed electrician to install a suitable weather-proof power source close to where you you will use the tub. Never use an extension cord.

All our IGLUs are wet products. In other words, there will be condensation, there will be water splashes when you get out, and when you change your filter. If you can apply the same logic you would in your bathroom, you can decide on the floor finish around your IGLU.

Technical questions

The IGLU SIKU plunge unit has a deep tank that allows the plunger to sit comfortably while maximising the benefits of their plunge. It can easily accommodate most people up to about 6’3” and around 120kg.

The SIKU XL has a longer tank and can accommodate most people up to 7″ and around 140kg.

All SIKU units come with a matching step that allows you to enter and exit easily.

The QINU inflatable bath is made for one person, and can accommodate most people up to 6’8″ and 120kg.

All our IGLU ice baths have a simple gravity fed waste system. Open and pull out the drain plug, attach your hosepipe to the hose connector,  and push the drain plug half way in, to allow for free-flowing drainage. All drainage videos are included in the User Manual you will receive on purchase.

Please ensure both your pump and chiller are switched off before draining the water.

In short, 3°C.  We have not found science to indicate that anything less than 3°C produces additional benefits.

We’d recommend that customers new to cold plunging start with a temperature that suits them and drop this as they become more accustomed to the cold water immersion therapy experience.

Pro tip: keep your weather cover on when your IGLU is not in use – it will insulate and maintain your IGLU’s  cold water temperature.

Your unit’s performance depends on where it is located (outside or inside, and in direct sunlight or not).  If your IGLU is placed in direct sunlight, this will affect the efficacy of your chiller’s performance. Nevertheless, there is a double insulation layer, and the chiller works as follows: when you set it at 3°C, the machine will reach your set temperature, and the chiller will then turn off. Nevertheless, if the water temperature increases by 2 degrees (due to someone taking a plunge after sitting in the sun), the machine will start running again to return to its set temperature.

Iglu studies have shown that if the outside temperature is between 15-20 degrees the water temperature will rise roughly 2-4 degrees in 4-6 hours once the chiller is switched off.

It is recommended to change out your filter every 3-4 weeks, based on a daily use by a single person.

To extend the life of your filter, we recommend showering before every plunge and minimising the dirt and particles that enter the ice bath by using the top cover after every use. You can also remove the filter, clean it off and reuse it, should you wish to.

We provide three (3) paper filter replacements with each order, and more can be purchased on our website

The energy consumption will depend on the ambient temperature in which the IGLU is being used. If your IGLU is placed in direct sun, you will use more energy to cool the water.

Moreover, keeping your weather cover on, will insulate the IGLU and keep your water at your desired temperature for far longer, than allowing the water to be exposed to ambient temperatures.

Nevertheless, the IGLU’s typical energy consumption is around 350 – 500 Watts per hour. As a comparison, a typical 9000 BTU air conditioner uses 800 – 900 Watts per hour.
